WE ARE A FAMILY BUSINESS that loves to recreate/redesign lost and forgotten treasures that would otherwise end up in the landfill. I was trained in the craft of REUPHOLSTERY from age 11 by my father, a retired upholsterer with over 30 years experience in the industry.
We believe in Slow Design - Slow Design is to promote well being for individuals, society, and the natural environment. Slow Design seeks a mindful approach to designing that takes into consideration a wide range of materials and social factors as well as the short and long-term impacts of the design.
We feel blessed to have an opportunity to serve others and in the process become transformed as Changemakers in our community. We look forward to serving you.

Sandra and Alexis Roman were born in Peru and in Puerto Rico in the 1970s. Sandra immigrated to the United States with her family in 1978. Naturalized as a US Citizen in the 1990s and graduated from Penn State University with a BA in Integrative Arts (Architecture Design) with minors in Architectural History and Sociology in 1995. She is an Artist, Teacher, and Upholsterer. Alexis grew up in Puerto Rico surrounded by farm animals and a curiosity to find answers to many of life's questions. Living on the island, with limited resources, he found himself learning how to farm, doing construction, and he became a licensed electrician. In 2010 he moved to Lancaster County (USA) where in 2013 he met Sandra and they married and soon after. They opened ALCHEMY, their small family business in 2015. They consider themselves abundantly blessed with their creative business. They have a mission to share the JOY OF CREATION with others working in collaboration with their clients to create New Creation custom reupholstered/redesigned projects that bring JOY into every Artful Home. Honoring the differences and unique culture of each family home and creating authentic pieces that speak to their personal JOY!
CREATING THE ARTFUL HOME is our passion at Alchemy! Alchemy means transformation. At Alchemy we believe in investing time, slow design, and being mindful to create home furnishings and accessories that enhance your home as a one-of-a-kind Artful Home. Artful Homes are created and designed to be the personal visual storytelling of the people who live in the home. We work with you through our 3 step process of redesign: discovering, exploring, and enjoying centered on creating new creations that speak of your personal visual storytelling - what brings you joy.
WE THANK YOU! When you hire us to reupholster your furniture or purchase our one-of-a-kind new creations from our online shop you honor our heart for being eco-friendly (one less item in the landfill). You value our diverse, cultural creativity (supporting our female, Latina-owned small business) and you keep the stories, and voices of our grandparents (family heirloom furniture) alive for future generations to discover, explore, and enjoy. Below is a small sampling of our custom projects.
ENJOYING IT!
